2005 St. James Tempranillo

(TEMP-ra-nee-YO) Tempranillo is a famous varietal in the Rioja region of Spain, but in recent years it has gained long-deserved attention, especially in California. This wine is very easy to drink, with its soft tannins and smooth mouth-feel. It has a wonderful bouquet of fresh ripe cherry, complimented by more cherry flavor and a hint of oak. Enjoy this wine on its own, or try it with barbecued chicken, fresh sweet corn, and a salad.

Label Poor Souls Zinfandel Bottle SJZinfandel
2004 Poor Souls Zinfandel
(ZIN-fan-dell) This Zinfandel was harvested from the Poor Souls Vineyard, named after the 'poor soul' who takes care of this extremely rocky site. The wine, however, has a soft body with lots of fresh red berry flavors, such as red current, strawberry and cranberry. It was aged in mostly neutral oak barrels for 18 months, so it's fruity flavors come through the mild oak background. This fruity aged Zinfandel goes well with almost any meal including pasta dishes, seafood, chicken or a good steak.

Label St. James Zinfandel Bottle SJZinfandel
2004 St. James Zinfandel
(ZIN-fan-dell) This Zinfandel was harvested from the St. James Vineyard. It has a medium body with soft tannins, oak and berry fruit flavors. It was aged in mostly 2nd and 3rd year oak barrels for 18 months, so its oak flavor is more predominate than the Poor Souls Zinfandel. This oaky Zinfandel is perfect for barbequed chicken, steak and/or vegetables.

Label Barbera Bottle PSBarbera
2004 Poor Souls Barbera
(bar-bear-AH) The 2004 Barbera is a new addition to our selection of wines. It has a full-body and a deep purple-red color. There are lots of raspberry and cherry aromas with oak and alcohol in the background. Once this wine hits your mouth, soft oak and fresh berry flavors come alive.  This wine is one of the winemaker's favorites. With this wine we recommend shrimp, sausage or chicken sis-kabobs, with tomatoes, onions, green bell peppers and, of course, don't forget the pineapples.

Label Tempranillo Bottle Tempranillo
2004 St. James Tempranillo
(TEMP-ra-nee-YO) A tribute to the most famous red wines made in the Rioja region of Spain. The classic Rioja blend is made of at least 85% Tempranillo.  In respectful tradition the '04 Tempranillo is also made of 85% Tempranillo grapes, with about 15% Graciano, another varietal common to this famous blend. This medium-bodied red wine has lots of spicy oak aromas and berry fruit flavors. The finish is clean and crisp; the perfect wine for creamy or cheesy dishes that requires a cleansing of the palate to refresh the meal.

Label Viognier Bottle Zinfandel
2003 Zinfandel
(ZIN-fan-dell) The 2003 Zinfandel doesn’t have a vineyard designate because it came from both the Poor Souls and the St. James vineyards. We decided to blend these two vineyards because the wine complimented each other so well. In 2004, we kept the lots separate because we wanted to emphasize the unique flavors Zinfandel develops from these two vineyards. This ’03 Zinfandel is a dry, medium bodied red with lots of oak and peppery-spice flavors and aromas.

Label Syrah Bottle SJSyrah
2003 St. James Syrah
(Sear-RAH) This Syrah was one of the winemaker’s favorites from New Clairvaux's first release. It is very balanced and complex; meaning it has a little bit of everything a good aged red wine should have. Its tannins, acidity, fruit flavor, oak and bouquet blend together in a harmonious fashion. It has lots of berry flavors and earthy aromas; similar to many Cab's.

Label PSPetiteSirah Bottle PSPetiteSirah
2003 Poor Souls Petite Syrah
(Pe-teet Sear-RAH) From our first release, this Petite Sirah was one of the hottest sellers. We held the last 20 cases back for our reserve wine list, due to its popularity and aging potential. It has a rich purple-red color and lots of tannins; both of which are common characteristics of Petite Sirah. Its acidity and tannins make this wine great for aging and the longer it ages the softer the tannins become, letting all the subtle flavors such as rose and raspberry come through.
