2005 Poor Souls Zinfandel

Production: 200 Cases $13.00 Per Bottle

(ZIN-fan-dell) This Zinfandel was harvested from the Poor Souls Vineyard, named after the ‘poor soul’ who takes care of this extremely rocky site. The wine however has a soft body with lots of fresh red berry flavors, such as red current, strawberry and cranberry. It was aged in mostly neutral oak barrels for 18 months, so it’s fruity flavors come through the mild oak background. This fruity aged Zinfandel goes well with almost any meal including a red or white pasta dish, seafood, chicken or a good steak.

2005 St. James Zinfandel

Production: 250 Cases $13.00 Per Bottle

(Zin-fan-dell) This Zinfandel bursts with bright fruit flavors of ripe strawberries and rich black cherries. It is a medium body, dry red wine with very soft tannins and well balanced oak flavors with just a hint of vanilla due to the American oak barrels it has been aged in. This medium body, fruit forward wine would pair wonderfully with a light pasta and olive oil dish or grilled fish.

2006 St. James Tempranillo

Production: 210 Cases $15.00 Per Bottle

(TEMP-ra-nee-YO) A tribute to the most famous red wines made in the Rioja region of Spain. The classic Rioja blend has to be made of at least 85% Tempranillo. It this 2006 St. James Tempranillo we also blended in about 15% Graciano, another varietal common to this famous blend. This medium bodied red wine has aromas of spicy oak and cherry and is loaded with rich berry fruit flavor. The finish is clean and crisp; a perfect wine for creamy or cheesy dishes that require a cleansing of the palette to refresh the meal.

2006 Poor Souls Barbera

Production: 210 Cases $15.00 Per Bottle

(Bar-bear-RAH) Our Poor Souls Barbera has always been a wine hard for us to keep in stock. It has a soft-body and medium granite red color. There are lots of strawberry and cherry aromas with a hint of oak in the background. Once this wine hits your mouth, the soft oak and fresh berry flavors come alive. A recommended dish for this tasty wine would be a chicken marsala, which is a slightly pounded chicken breast cooked in mushrooms and wine.

Vina Ranch Red Table Wine

Production: 418 Cases $14.00 Per Bottle

(Vine-NA Ranch) This Red Table Wine is New Clairvaux’s first blend of Vina grapes that was made to emulate the taste of a fine Italian red wine. It is a blend of 60% St. James Block Zinfandel and 40% St. James Block Syrah. It has a deep red color and a beautiful bouquet of ripe red berries. It also is very smooth and has rich flavors of fruit and oak. It has aged well and it would compliment almost any pasta dish made with tomato sauce base.

2005 St. James Syrah

Production: 400 Cases $15.00 Per Bottle

(Sear-RAH) Syrah is the only grape that our winemaker is insistent on letting it have a long hang-time in the vineyard. It’s not picked until it reaches at least 26.0 Brix, where Syrah rich flavors start to emerge. The 2005 Syrah has lot’s of red berry aromas and good oak flavors. It’s soft tannins and rich flavors make a wonderful pair with Chinese foods such as stir fry’s and sweet and sour dishes.

2006 St. James Syrah

Production: 420 Cases $16.00 Per Bottle

(Sear-RAH) Our St. James Syrah has always been a favorite at New Clairvaux but this vintage could very well be this best Syrah we have ever produced. This wine has soft, round tannins, deep burnt red color and full body with just the right amount of American oak that gives the slightest hint of vanilla flavor. Best of all is the smooth decadent chocolate flavors that make this wine perfect pair for any grilled meat, Chinese food or even spicy cioppino.

2006 St. James Petite Sirah

Production: 420 Cases $17.00 Per Bottle

(Peh-TEET Sear-RAH) If you like BIG, BOLD Petite Sirah this is the one for you! This wine has a full body with soft oak flavors and nice tannins that will keep this wine alive and well for years to come. The deep, dark purple ink like color tells you this wine is rich with blackberry and cherry flavors. This wine demands a juicy grilled steak or a rich thick pasta dish, also a perfect match for any game dish.

2005 Abbot's Reserve

Production: 420 Cases $36.00 Per Bottle

This wine was made in honor of Father Thomas X. Davis, the Abbot of New Clairvaux that led this community for 36 years. We refer to this wine as “the best of two worlds”. It is an ensemble of 48% St. James Syrah from Vina and 52% of Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley. With dark berry flavors, elderberry and anise, this wine will age and drink well for the next two decades. A perfect match for rack of lamb, grilled pork, or better yet, just skip to the Crème Brule.
